Arlene M. McGunn-Clendenin, M.F.A. has brought her considerable talent to writing this book for the benefit of all women, present and future. Having recently completed a screenplay on a day in the life of a noted artist during 1942, her next project involves publishing a fine art book retrospective of Bernard Clendenin’s work from the early fifties through today.
Bernard S. Clendenin has a national reputation as a fine artist. He has studied with William McNulty, Jon Corbino, and Robert Beverly Hale at the Art Students League of New York. His paintings, now in five museums, have won considerable praise for their color, passion, and sensitivity. Recently several pieces were acquired by the Society of Caribbean Artists (SOCA) to hang in their collection at the Fort Frederik Museum, Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S.V.I. His one-man shows include: The Roxbury, hosted by Norm Nixon, formerly of the Los Angeles Lakers and Dr. William Hayling; The Ventura County National Bank; Professor Donald J. Zirpola hosted a show in Manhattan Beach, CA; Two shows were held at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Marina del Rey, CA. Clendenin’s fine art captures his unique perspective of the individual model he is painting. At times, he paints from photographs of his models and other times, he paints purely from his imagination. In either instance, what comes through is total awareness of the moment in time.
